Brown Westhead and Moore Painted Rose Porcelain Dessert Plate Antique circa 1865
A Brown Westhead and Moore porcelain dessert plate, of wonderful quality, beautifully hand painted with a central pink and cream striped coloured tea rose with buds. It has a very distinctive moulded border rim with six equally spaced gilded stylised quatrefoil leaf shapes each interspersed with twelve short ribs. This rim is exquisitely gilded. The company of Brown, Westhead and Moore operated from Cauldon Works (formerly Ridgways) at Cauldon Place, Hanley, Staffordshire.

The firm eventually became Cauldon Ltd. This plate dates from around 1866 in the third quarter of the 19th century during the reign of Queen Victoria. The plate 9 9/16 inches (24.2 cm) diameter and 11/16 inches (1.7 cm) high, it weighs 455 grammes unpacked. It is unmarked as is often the case with items from this factory.

It is in very good antique condition with just some very minor rubbing to the enamel and gilding, no chips, cracks nor restoration. References: Bergesen's price guide to British Ceramics page 397 illustration 2.
