This is really a wonderful piece. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included her biography below. This is without a doubt one of the artist's finest works. A very early work as it is signed and dated 1901 lower right corner.
A gouache on paperboard measuring 10 x 29 1/2 inches it is an outstanding view of different color roses laying on a table. Painting is in excellent condition. No fading at all with strong colors to the yellow and pink and red roses and the white roses are a sparkling white. The board itself might be showing a small bit of toning but nothing too bad. Really just a very fine example of the artist's work.
Original gold frame shows some chips but is still a fine presentation of this excellent painting. Frame measures 13 x 32 1/2 inches. For those not familiar with the artist, her biography from askart reads: A painter and etcher, Henrietta Mears was active in St. Paul, Minnesota, and Provincetown, Massachusetts.
She was born in 1877 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and studied at the Art Students League in New York City with Charles Hawthorne and Eric Pape. She was a member of bi-coastal art associations, the Provincetown Art Association, West Coast Arts, and Berkeley League of Fine Arts. She earned prizes for work exhibited at the Minnesota State Fair in 1927, the St. Paul Institute in 1930, and in 1917, she had a solo exhibition at the Copley Gallery in Boston.
