All of the dots and leaves and decorative border near the base are raised. There are roses painted on outside of bowl also.
The gold trim on the top edges is a bit worn in a few places. The paint seems to be worn (thin white line) near one of the roses - on one of the raised edges (see photo).
There seems to be a hairline crack on one side but it is smooth when you run your finger over it. Bowl measures 11 inches across and about 3.5 inches tall. This belonged to my mother. The period between the passage of the McKinley Act in 1890 and the English word ruling in 1921 when the word was banned from U. Imports is the only time "Nippon" appeared in authentic marks.
